DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Unsigned Swiss, very rare "Hora-Universa" world time watch, 55mm, gunmetal OF original display case, front with white enamel SS impressed dial for local time, rear with white enamel dial displaying relative time at over 100 world locations, central rotating day/night disk with 24 hour indications is meant to rotate as watch is set to display day or night in each locale, SW-SS, lever escapement, 7J, gilt mvt, s#341995 under dial. A rare and eye-catching piece, the world time dial at the rear includes nine locations that are preceded by a small "0" marking and these correspond to Trans-Siberian Railway stops, and the inclusion and emphasis on these suggests the Russian market was the primary target of this unusual design. This example is in need of overhaul to restore its setting function, but is very much deserving of this effort from its next owner.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running but setting mechanism not functioning, on testing setting was initially slipping occasionally but within moments began slipping more frequently, under dial inspection reveals a winding/setting mechanism element with broken teeth (see our photos for an image of this), recommend no further setting is attempted until this issue is resolved, front dial feet are present but are not securing properly with their screws, overhaul needed for setting function and to secure front dial, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, small "M" scribed to plate surface at perimeter near click, some mild haze to gilt finish; flawless front dial; rear world time dial with two hls at upper portion, some fading to markings at a few areas; rotating day/night disk with a hl at 10:30 on "Jour" side and some fading of "4" numeral on "Jour" side; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, some scratches, spotty areas of corrosion throughout gunmetal finish; tight brass bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystals.
